ABOUT US

TBOP’s work is focused on developing and implementing software solutions to micro finance institutions (MFIs) and organisations working with the world’s lowest socio-economic level. These are the category of the world’s population vulnerable due to lack of education, lack of information and other economic, cultural and social deprivations.

Most of these families live in rural villages, or urban slums and shantytowns, and are hard to reach via conventional distribution channels. Financial services like loans, savings and insurance, critical to promote financial inclusion, are left to micro lenders who use personnel on motorbikes to reach the remote villages. Medical care is often provided by teams who make make visits a few times a year and they support patients, without access to reliable medical records. Remote education is dependent on IT infrastructure that is non existent or unreliable at best.

TBOP's mission is to develop mobile applications for providers of financial, medical and education services that will overcome operational problems which they are currently faced with and which give rise to inefficiency, fraud, inability to store, manage and analyze data. Our products are built to accommodate, and in fact, simplify the workflow of these providers and also take into consideration problems with internet connectivity in rural areas and the large geographical expanse covered by these teams.

TBOP seeks to deploy our expertise and experience to address three principal aspects critical to moving the marginalized up the socio-economic ladder and important to poverty alleviation and financial inclusion in rural areas are: These are Financial Services, Health and Education.

Our Projects

The three areas which we will focus on and which are important to poverty alleviation and financial inclusion in
rural areas are: Financial Services, Health and Education.

Prodigy

Prodigy is a mobile banking platform consisting of 3 main modules:

A mobile application for the MFIs’ clients to manage his or her account portfolio and to perform online transactions via a smartphone, tablet or computer

A mobile application for the field officers and remote branch managers to perform daily operational transactions via a smartphone, tablet or computer; and

A backoffice management module which provides MFIs with comprehensive loan and saving portfolios management functionalities.

Prodigy effectively removes the need for pen and paper and reduces administrative effort, travel and processing time thereby saving costs and allowing manpower to be deployed to higher value-added tasks in the MFIs. One of the key design features of Prodigy was to allow for best practices to reduce the risk of fraud. Comprehensive audit and security features are built into Prodigy with a view to allow P2P money transfers or for integration with available mobile cashless payment systems.

Prodigy is never be seen as a cost to the user but is a tool to increase efficiency, reduce fraud, allow for greater transparency, allow for real time or near real time analysis’s and response, reduce operational costs, easily add or change products for the borrowers, interface with mobile payment platforms, export to accounting systems, and effectively manage an entire microfinance operation. With data analytics tools Prodigy can provide social impact measurements, prevent over-indebtedness, track performance of branches or even operate as a CRM tool to support the clients.

Funders’ of MFIs will find it very useful to use Prodigy as a standardised platform for use across their partner MFIs.

HIPPO

In the course for developing Prodigy, we have developed extremely close contact with MFI’s and we plan to use this relationship to partner with like minded MFI’s and organizations to improve the general health of villages, especially children and those with chronic diseases. We will deploy Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems on mobile devices to support medical teams providing rural health care and health education. The data gathered from Prodigy will form the basis of our ‘HIPPO’ software currently being developed for this purpose. Not only will this be useful for the work of remote medical teams but is also valuable to those providing telemedicine or emergency response services.

Education Software

Education in rural areas is the last, but by no means the least, of our areas of interest and we shall develop a solution to support the administration and business operations of organizations providing electronic books and interactive distance learning programmes to remote villages.

Seminars

Netrust Pte Ltd is honoured to jointly organize this seminar with the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Myanmar, on 2nd and 3rd Jan 2017.

The primary objective of the 2-day seminar is to share Netrust’s vast experiences in designing and implementing e-Government solutions in ASEAN countries, predominantly Singapore, Thailand and Brunei. The seminar also serves as a platform for CIOs and government officials from the various ministries in Myanmar to share the e-Government initiatives taken by their respective ministries.

During the seminar, Mr Foo Jong Ai, CEO, Netrust, shared with the participants of the seminar the fundamentals of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and the benefits of a PKI-based e-Identity infrastructure that would enable all users of Myanmar e-Government applications to perform secure online transactions over digital networks confidently. Mr Foo also elaborated on how the same e-Identity infrastructure is able to strengthen security and public confidence and to provide the highest level of protection of digital identities for all G2B e-Government and e-commerce transactions.

An online banking application was showcased as an example to demonstrate the convenience and ease of use of mobile PKI-based e-Identity for performing online transactions via desktop and mobile phone, without compromising the level of security as compared to smart cards or USB cryptographic tokens.

Another topic, which garnered much interest from the floor, is the state-of-the-art e-Passport and border control solutions developed by Netrust. The participants of this seminar are among the first to witness the power and convenience of the latest mobile application for e-Passport verification using near field communications (NFC).

Netrust has identified digital finance as one of the key areas that would drive economical and social benefits to the citizens of emerging economies such as Myanmar. Mr Roland Tan, CEO, T-BOP Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Netrust focusing on developing digital finance applications for rural banking and micro-finance institutions, shared with the participants the use of digital finance solutions to rapidly unlock economic opportunities and accelerate social development in emerging economies. The solutions; address the challenges faces by individuals, businesses, financial institutions and government in emerging economies, such as little or no access to financial services, heavy reliance on cash transactions, leakage in public expenditure and tax revenue, etc.

The seminar ended with enthusiastic exchanges among the government officials from various key ministries involved in the implementation of e-Government initiatives in Myanmar and representatives from Netrust on steps to be taken to expand outreach and accelerate e-Government diffusion in Myanmar.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank His Excellency U Thant Sin Maung, Minister, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Myanmar for his kind support for this seminar and His Excellency U Kyaw Myo, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Myanmar, for gracing the event with his presence and his support in making this seminar a great success.

INTERESTED IN WORKING TOGETHER ?

Rural livelihoods have been affected by a combination of "pull" forces from external economic development, and "push" forces from local dynamics, and rural communities see shifts in their livelihood. This includes changes in economic activities, household outmigration and consequent de-population of the countryside, changes in energy consumption, and most importantly, changes in land use and eventually environmental degradation through ecological destruction. Such dramatic changes are becoming common across the world’s countryside.

While there are many efforts to restore the environment the exclusion of financial services to rural communities has important and dramatic socio-economic and ecological consequences. Hunger, malnutrition, poverty, result in the poor getting poorer and it’s a downward spiral thereby compounding ecological difficulties.

Each poor family tries to survive by living off the land, water, forests, pastures, rivers, or coastlines which provides the basic means of subsistence. Even fallen twigs, animal waste, wild grass, finds it’s place in the everyday economic life of the people. The degradation of the environment and it’s profound and negative impact on the socio-economic lives of the rural poor is a vicious circle and is arguably the greatest stumbling block to sustainability in both areas.

While TBop focuses in technological solutions to support financial, medical and educational partners in remote communities we are looking to partner with like minded parties who are dedicated to sustainable environmental conservation or restoration.

Together, we believe we can achieve the maximum social impact to the communities which really need our attention, and restore mother earth for the sake of the future generations.
